Tips to Score High Marks in Quantitative Aptitude Section

:“Learn the secrets behind solving aptitude easily, explained how from my experience”.

Many people find it hard to solve aptitude and get disappointed when they score less.  So here is a guidance for everyone who find aptitude tough. This article is written based upon my experience.

Here are some reasons why some of us feel aptitude hard:

  1. Fear of mathematics.
  2. Weak in basics of maths.
  3. Lack of practice.

Here are some tips which will help you score good marks in your aptitude exam:

  • Learn the basics of math. If you have good math basics of the topics covered till your 12th then consider you are all set to start practicing for your aptitude exam.
  • Always remember the basic formula. Example:  Formulae like (a+b)2=a2+b2+2ab, etc. Such formulae are important so memorize them.
  • Along with the formula also learn the logical concept behind it, because one question may be asked in different ways so knowing the concept is important.
  • Be perfect with tables from 1 to 20. If you don’t know then start practicing now. It is important because they help you do the multiplication part very fast. In most of the problems the multiplication part includes only tables from 1 to 20.
  • Solve as many as papers you can. The more you practice the faster you can solve the problems. You can get papers from website and books.
  • If you’re weak in some topic don’t try to escape hang to it and keep practicing till you get perfect that will make you at it.
  • Do the sums with concentration. Read the question carefully and clearly, there will be a lot of unwanted information in the question, ignore such things. They are just given to confuse you.
  • Do the sums with confidence and at the same time don’t over look things with your over confidence.
  • Practice as many questions before your assessment. The more psychometric aptitude test questions you practice the more your speed, accuracy and confidence will improve. Improving these factors will help you improve your performance.
  • Practice in exam conditions. When you practice for your assessment do so in the same conditions in which you will be sitting your real aptitude test. This is probably in quiet conditions at a table.
  • Concentrate on the aptitude test questions you find the hardest during practice. Everyone likes doing things they’re good at but by concentrating on your weakest areas you’ll improve your overall score much more. If you find currency or timetable questions the hardest, for example, concentrate on practicing those.
  • Stick to timings. Don’t spend a disproportionate amount of time on one question. Work out roughly how much time you have per question before you start each test and then try to roughly stick to those timings. Remember the easiest questions might not be at the start of the test.
  • Use your own calculator and have rough paper when you practice. This point again relates to emulating the conditions and resources you’ll have in your actual psychometric test. Get familiar with the tools you’ll be using in your real assessment.
  • Don’t get other people to help you if you’ve been asked to sit an online test. Remember this will be against the terms and conditions of your application to the Company you are applying for and they may retest you when you go for your interview.
  • Practice often. You’ll perform your best if you keep your knowledge fresh in your mind so remember to practice as many questions as possible as often as possible.
  • Believe you can pass. If you practice efficiently and effectively for your psychometric aptitude tests, doing as many questions as possible before your real assessment then you have a good chance of passing.
  • Don’t be complacent. There are up to 50 applicants per place for large graduate schemes, your competition will be prepared for their psychometric tests so make sure you are too. Even if you are scoring high marks in your psychometric tests by practicing you could increase those scores and really differentiate yourself from the competition.
  • Practice, practice, practice – it’s the first top tip we gave and by far the most important, this is the key to performing your best in your psychometric aptitude tests.
  • Many of the questions will be very easy. So, when you get answer easily don’t think that “this may be the answer”.
  • Avoid using paper and pen for small calculations. Using pen and paper for every small question may consume your time.
  • During examination do all the sums which you are good at, later solve the sums which are tough and take time.
  • Don’t study anything new just before your examination. Go to the hall peacefully.
  • If there is negative marking, then  answer only those questions for which you know the answer for sure.

If you follow all these guide lines, I’m sure you’ll score good marks in your test. All the best!
